Are these crossing finally going to be updated so that the barricades are removed? I travel those street daily and the last two morning, there has been a crew working on them; but no sign of new signals moved to opposite sides of tracks. Hopefully those wil be taken care of. Quite frustrating that they changed to two way streets and then promptly barricaded the lanes. I have had a couple of near head on collisions with people driving around them into my lane.

I honestly never saw the benefit gained by spending the money to change all of the one way streets to two way. As I recall, the reasoning was to give better access to the downtown area. Do not see that...as there were the same number of lanes going each direction then as now.

Anyway, I hope they are taking care of the crossing situation, but could be they are just servicing the existing signals.

In my little opinion, what they did was a form of "don't ask, don't tell". They were obligated to acknowledge that there should be lights there, by law, I'd guess, yet, as a matter of COMMON SENSE, that track is rarely used, and if so, the little train is going about 15 mph....How about taking the lights down and putting up the old "stop look and listen" sign as there is no big threat there?

Actually, I have to admit from a bicycle standpoint, it's a little better to have them 2-way. (it makes some distances a little shorter and Franklin St. downtown is in pretty good condition on both sides)  I was not in favor of the 2-way change, believing it would be less safe, and it IS, in a way. But, I rarely see a ton of traffic which is why they went to 1-way in the first place decades ago. It DOES need to remain 1-way near DHS.

Great news for everyone that travels both streets daily. The barricades are now gone from Franklin Street, so probably will be gone soon from Walnut also.

So, did they make the signals right or simply remove them? I'd pedal by if the rain would stop.

Now, if they'd open up the Kimball exit from the subway.....Oh, I remember, it was too unsafe, it might collapse.....Yet, they will still allow people to use it (and bicyclists)....

They removed the crossing arms and now have a signal light, with bells, on each side of the tracks. Driving through there at lunch time, I actually had to stop there for a train; which is uncommon with those tracks. It was interesting that the short train had a caboose. You very seldom see one of those anymore. The caboose was named "The Spirit of Hillery." I believe it is kept at the railyard at Hillery.

Gosh, I would've videotaped a caboose! The only one I know of was (is?) in Friendly Town in Lincoln Park.

That is an interesting little train situation. I'd wonder if it could produce enough revenue for the upkeep it must need.....It ends up near that mysterious "junction" where the tracks cross each other----I think------within sight N. of Williams at the tracks near Junction Ave. By the way, a very old RR cross arms, wooden, is still on the W side of the tracks.

Now, there were 2 different blocks involved, right?? So what about Harrison, the same deal? I rarely stray off Williams around those streets unless I'm headed downtown, not to the N.

Thanks for the update.
