I took these paragraphs out of the article in today's News Gazette.
Kickapoo State Park near Oakwood, Moraine View State Park near LeRoy and Weldon Springs State Park near Clinton are among the parks scheduled for closure Nov. 1, according to information from the governor's office.
Come November, the park entrances will be barred and the public will no longer be allowed access to those areas, said Chris McCloud, spokesman for the Department of Natural Resources.

Well, if they do barricade that park road, I'll believe it when I see it. As I've been mentioning on the CN GBook, there's a cemetery inside the park. You can't tell loved ones, or anyone for that matter, you can no longer drive there,,,,,,right?
I think it'll be accessible but all grown over,,,,but,,,we'll see.

Oliver, that is a very good point about the Cemetery.. I hadn't even thought about that..My mother has many relatives buried there.. I can't say she makes weekly or monthly visits there, but she does go on occasion.. When we have the family reunion, in Kickapoo, every year, alot of the "oldtimers" go and reminisce about this one and that one... Even some they didn't know, but was still family from way back..
I still can't imagine not having access to the park when I go home.. Much less, everyone that visits the park often.. Even if its just to drop things off at the recycle bins..
I did email a letter to the fine Gov. I hope everyone does.. I have my doubts that it will change his mind, no matter how many write, but I still put in my 2 cents..

Also, I don't know what the fire protection is out there, but I'd bet a case could be made for leaving at least the main road open for that purpose.
And as happy harold said on the GB, I think it's a county road.
Just being able to drive through the park even if unkept for now, is what I'm thinking has to happen and that wouldn't make it seem such a total loss.
My suggestion of a fee is serious, but, it'd probably be more than I would afford.
I wonder if the gas prices curtailed a lot of the usual traffic out there.
I can be a lot more free here that on the GB since it's so easy to stir a hornet's nest there:
We elect people to make these budetary decisions. If the money's not there for whatever good or bad reasons, something has to go. (I never understood deficit spending anyway. If the gov. spends money it doesn't have, who is getting short-changed? Who is not receiving their compensation?)
Oh, I don't think anyone's mentioned the Champaign factor. I have the impression they like Kickapoo too. Maybe they have the muscle to twist a few arms in this? Maybe not.

After reading much discussion on the CNGB about Kickapoo, someone stated about the park being closed thru the winter.. Yes, I remember that.. gate closed going back to the Pavilion and Cemetery , and Campground, but you could pass thru the park on the main road.. Of course, that was only thru the bad months.. Lets hope the dear Gov. will give in and unlock those gates come spring.. I've kept up more on the closing of Kickapoo than any of the election politics.. I can say, I know one I won't be voting for..

Well, I'm relieved about the main road staying open. I'm concerned though that cemetery access is not included. It would not be practical for most people to walk from the main road that far back east.
And I still contend that whatever the fire protection is out there, locked gates will only stand in the way of tragedy, though I realize gates are usually locked at night anyway.
Can't imagine the present Gov. could even consider reelection again.
Glad to see a post from you CG, sorry I missed seeing it till now.

Seems like the park will still be "open",,,but,,,it was always going to be,,,,in my book.

Sorry for just seeing this
So did it close? Kickapoo is such a great place, we spent quite a bit of time there when we lived in Danville. I hope it doesn't close. Its a great park for the whole area, let alone Danville. Can you still get in, maby just no forest service anymore? I need an update here!

I believe the simple answer is "yes", that on Nov. 22 I read in the Gazetter that funds for Kickapoo and many other parks slated to close were somehow reinstated by the Gov. after intense pressure and petitions. If that means everything is now totally "normal" out there, I don't know, such as, if camping, etc; are affected in any way.
I'm honing in on "60" and it was always a special trip to go out there.
