COMMENTARY on News: I wonder if the VP choices on the tickets yet to be will have any effect on one's vote?

Would Obama choosing the Gov. of IL or McGovern as a running mate cost him votes, while adding Hillary or Nancy might gain him votes?

Or McCain adding Donald Rumsfeld as a running mate cost him votes, while Colin Powell, John Kerry or Al Gore might gain him votes?

I, for one, don't care. We'll see what happens and see how the next fit Commander-In-Chief of the mightiest armed forces in the world does his job in the coming months.

SPORTS: The Cubs are having a more realistic stretch right now. As I said previously, better to fall now and come steaming back later rather than a repeat of '69.

WEATHER: The weather is a renewable resource. It could be the answer to the energy crisis. Wind is free. Sunlight is free. Flowing water can be free. Electricity can be produced to do the things we want done. However, I don't believe they can launch many rockets with only a few 9 volt batteries. But at least we could still get around on those kid's battery scooters.

Oliver signing and reminding you that the 1st National Bank of Danville is no longer located in the old 1st National Bank Building on the NW corner of the now half-square at Vermilion and Main Sts. If you thought is still was, I'd like to speak with you sometime at your convenience, please.

Now stay tuned for whatever else you were planning to do with your finite time on this planet.........

NEWS: That new whatever it is to be built on the Village Mall parking lot has to be good news, if only for any benefits it brings in from simply being built. Hopefully some local people will earn $$ from building it or from using local suppliers....

As for the draw locally, time will tell. Somehow I'm thinking that if were some sort of "night club" for younger people, it might be a big success if it weren't over-priced.

I do not think I should have much reason to attend it, even if money were not a consideration as my life-style is rather laid-back. (I don't eat out either.)

Still, I wish that it'll have enough attendance to make a go of it. I wish Starbucks could stick around to see if it would draw more across the street to them, but my understanding is that our SBs was merely on a list of many to be cut, I think without a long-enough chance to establish itself. There were always cars in there ALmost daily when I'd pass, but, maybe some belonged to the clientele.

SPORTS: Hope the Cubs don't "back" into the playoff season.....Don't usually listen to DHS sports, but that 55-14 win vs Mattoon was something. I could hear the frequent drum rolls from my castle outside, about a mile and a quarter away.

WEATHER: Ideal in my book. 70s today, a little cool tonight and clear. Yet overnight a quiet rain sneaked in and kindly filled up my rain barrels. Still very dry though, or some expected basement wetness would already be showing up.

Well, until the next time, whenever that'll be, drive home safely, wave enthusiastically to your neighbors while exclaiming "Popeye needs new hearing-aid batteries, a pack of 312s!" Then study their subtle or not-so-subtle expressions as an interesting study of human behavior.

Fare Thee Well.

Latest News: No news is good news. Isn't that what they always used to say?

Latest Sports: "If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will.
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can."
~ C. W. Longenecker ~

Weather: Writer(s): Kosma/Prevert/Mercer
"The falling leaves
Drift by the window
The autumn leaves
Of red and gold

I see your lips
The summer kisses
The sunburned hands
I used to hold

Since you went away
The days grow long
And soon I'll hear
Old winter's song

But I miss you most of all
My darling
When autumn leaves
Start to fall"

(except for the raking part, that is.)

Now stay tuned for the latest "I Love Lucy" adventure. Tonight Lucy is elected President along with V.P. Ethel. Ricky and Fred are not allowed in the Oval Office. Then the Adventures of Lassie, with a cameo appearance by Rin Tin Tin. So don't touch that dial!

Sports: Nothing worth mentioning will be happening until next April. Sorry for any inconvenience. Stay tuned.

Weather: Blah. Getting colder. Guess that sort of thing can happen now & then in E. Central IL. Of course, if this 49F, damp weather were the worst of the winter here, we'd be dancing on the rooftops with the lower heat bills.

News: I'm here to make note of something I rarely make note of, mostly because I don't pay attention to it, and even if I did, I wouldn't make note of it very much.

I'd like to congratulate myself on now just passing the "7 day" accumulated online time on this great forum. I never did find out if young Mr. Comer has the lights on for awhile longer or not. I hope he knows I've appreciated having edanville.com around.

Coming up is the regularly scheduled broadcast program, "Devices of the Future". Tonight will feature a discussion of a future invention that will someday be seen next to all those small satellite dishes you see on houses, or out in the yards. Those future devices will receive 3D signals and also send out impulses that'll make you think you are being touched. They will be shaped like little spoons. Stay tuned, please.

News: Junk invades this forum!!

Sports: Who cares? (Er, I suppose a few of you do.)

Weather: Weather is in the eye of the beholder, and in how cold one's feet seem.

Have an unstressful day, please. It's not good for you.

NEWS: Oliver a little sad about the state of "his" forum. (his self-proclaimed "claim" to edanville is that he has unwaveringly posted regularly here all along)

The wistfulness is over the plethora of "ads"(??) cropping up. They total about 30 or so,,,,,,,,so far....He can live with them by "ignore, ignore, ignore" but he thinks the ones under this category "Latest News", are misplaced and should at least be dumped with the other junk in "Free Cycle" or that general area.

Anyway, viewer numbers don't seem to be supporting most of that spam, and I thank you for that. (If any really UNappropriate material is in all those 30 or so topics, I hope it can somehow be brought to dcomer's attention)

SPORTS: Sorry about the last minute problems the SD team has had. (I happened to see the last  half minute of SD vs INDY, an extremely rare happening for me. Gosh, the pressure on those field goal kickers. Still, kicking to break a tie shouldn't be the pressure to kick to tie or win, such as if INDY had been behind, say, 17 to 20. That would be a MUST execute situation.)

WEATHER: Danville is under gray skies, 40 deg. F, but it's not balmy since it's a little breezy. If the sun were brightly shining and it were calm, who could ask for anything more on Nov. 24th, 3 days before Thanksgiving? (Oh, I know some could ask for more.)

All from Oliver--

I did click on a couple of the spams, just to report them, but decided it wasn't worth the clicking back and forth.. They are gone, and that's what is important.. Its better for the forum to be slow, than to have to look at some of those titles.. Someone looking at the forum for the first time, might get the wrong idea..

Love the weather so far, but with snow in the forecast, not looking real forward to that.. not complaining about the couple of inches that might drop down on our area Sun. evening thru Mon. morning, since its supposed to be up close to 50 by Wed.. I can handle that.. but, once that first snow falls, that means, more is coming eventually..

What is your prediction of the first big snowfall.. as in more than a couple of inches?

Oh, gee, they seem to be saying some is on the way, and they're usually right.

We can handle anything below 6 inches OK in my opinion. However, even with only a few inches you'll see fender-benders from those inexperienced or those not paying attention.

The real problem is when it stays cold enough to let them collect up. And drifting is the other bad factor.

So, if we have that snow cover in the next few days, that's nothing unheard of. Some winters have had enough snow BY Christmas to consitute an entire winter, which only starts on about the 21st.

I'd like to think we'll have a mild winter. I'll Google "El Nino" and "El Nina" and see which one we want!

I seen my first willy worm hiding out in the garage Saturday night.. It was black.. isn't that a sign of bad weather according to Judy on Channel 3?.. I hope it was just cold..and not a bad sign.. I'm not ready for this just yet.. but nobody ask me, so guess I will go with the flow, or should I say, when the snow blows..

I saw only 2 wooly worms while out pedaling. I never knew how to analyze them.  One was black on both ends and orangish-brown in the middle. It may have been an Illini fan?

I just hope people can tough out the increased cost of the nat. gas. I'd suggest lowering the dial to the lowest one has ever considered and wear warmer clothing. It is my opinion that a healthy person's health will not be compromised by a low house temperature. I realize some or most will simply say that a cold house is going to make everyone sick. Well,,,,,,they will just have to open their wallets wider then to use that heat. As a matter of fact, germs have a harder time thriving in the cold. That's why iceboxes are designed to preserve food around 40 deg. F or so.

Oh, by the way,  a heating pad is still reasonable to use. The 50 watts it uses is 1.2 kilowatts/day IF used all the time, which it wouldn't be. I think a kilowatt is about 15 cents?? Actually those heated blanket throws and plain electric blankets are only in the 200 watt range which could offer an alternative to heating your ceilings, etc; with expensive heat. Trouble is, all the el. blankets we've gotten are VERY short-lived. You'd think Sunbeam would put out a better product than that.

Welll, I got carried away. Have a warm day!

Are they called Wooly Worms?.. I made a correction on my previous post, as I typed willy work, instead of worm.. guess the spell check thought that is what I meant.. lol..After thinking about it, I can't recall what I've heard them called, so willy just popped in my head.. Could that be a sign of...over 50?..Wooly does make since since they have long spiky hair..

Temps seem to be staying at pretty cold, but killing off all the flies and bugs, so thats a good thing.. I usually keep the heat set at 70 or 71 degrees, but night time, I kick it back to around 68.. also have the registers shut off in the bedroom.. No way could I stand sleeping on a heating pad, or using an electric blanket..  Maybe I will change my mind with the first big power bill from Ameren...

Stay warm and have a great weekend!

"NEWS": NOTE: I would not recommend anyone simply try to sleep with a 50 watt heating pad, say, on their chest, or anywhere else for that matter!  Prolonged, unattended use can cause a burning effect, just as sticking your finger right in front of a 1600 watt hair dryer will burn if you leave it there!

Now, a good heating blanket is another matter. About the most they use is 200+ watts though the king size may use more(?).. No one spot or area is a threat to burn a person.

If one could close off the register to one's bedroom, thus using less heat elsewhere in the house, thus saving money (in my opinion) that toasty bed is a treat (in my opinion).

The problem for me is that the investment should be worth it. The blankets, Biddle and Sunbeam do not last for years. They are very short-lived in my experience. Heating pads fare better, at least.

The next Ameren will have to be high. The rates have shot up due to the ICC tinkering AND temps. are well below normal at this point.

"SPORTS": In the class 3-A Snow Total contest last night: Danville IL Daredevils 1, the Theodore AL Tushies 0

Weather: Locally in E. Central IL, Oliver fears there will be possibly 4.5 feet of snow and temperature highs of minus 19 with 55 mph gusts producing a wind chill of leventy-leven below! This may hamper his efforts to pedal out to Geno's which he tries to do around each weekend.....If he posts no more, you'll know he didn't quite make it.

Have a great day!!

NEWS: How about that Gov. of IL thing? I think it was all just a little misunderstanding. Rod wasn't involved in any of it! It was Rich Little, the impersonator that was on his phone being a cut-up for Rod's amusement! So, Pres. Elect OBama should go ahead and give him a cushey job, like ambassador to Afganistan stationed at check-points in his SUV to say "Hey!" to all the friendly natives passing by.

Hey, how about that Venus, out there all alone now! What happened? Why did Jupiter take the Moon instead of her? Stay tuned to the ongoing saga. They'll be back together in only 44 years, never fear!

SPORTS: Aw aw! Just think what would become of our Cubbies if a Japanese firm got them: The Chicago "Nokes" playing night games only in the former Wrigley Field, now the "Nokia Stadium" to be torn down by 2010 and into a new domed stadium down near Mokena (which Nokia will also buy and rename Nokiaville). Say, that green stuff can sure talk!

Weather: The upcoming winter will be on the cooler side, with snows now and then and some brisk conditions, followed by a gradual warm up in the spring and slowly getting on the hot side during the summer. By fall, though, temps. will moderate and your long, lonely nights will once again set in and you'll ask yourself 'what's it all about, Alfie' and he'll say to go read Oliver's brilliant commentary here for next year's accurate, albeit rather general, forecast.

Stay tuned for the "Popeye Cartoon Show". Tonight Popeye must try to kick Governor Bluto out of office but it'll take at least an entire can of spinach to do the trick, plus lots of old, neat rousing band accompaniment by some really nifty players, all long since in their graves I'm sure.

Later on the Tonight Show, the ghost of Johnny Carson makes an appearance and he tells Conan that he, Johnny could not believe the last election OR that a no-talent personality like Conan would ever be in the Tonight Show chair!

And now a word from our sponsor:

News: Looks like I'll be here almost daily.
Sports: Sprig training is just around the kernal.
Weather: Oliver has a fan on to bring the warmer 45 deg. F temp into his castle.

Stay tuned just out of habit.
